Newport - A home away from home.

Newport - A home away from home.

After having lived in Spain for 12 years, I moved to Newport in South Wales in 2015. During my initial 5 years in Newport, I have tried to explore some of the many cultural aspects of this diverse City which form part of its turbulent history. On my arrival, the City had changed, over the span of only a few decades, from being an industrial hub to becoming a residential community based on retail business. Its success, in this aspect, was founded on the construction of a retail park, Spytty Park, and a brand-new shopping centre, Friars Walk. With Spytty Park being located some distance from the City centre the aspiration of accomplishment fell upon Friars Walk. With the present slump in retail commerce and the Covid 19 pandemic the outlook is hard to predict.
